First for Phoenix

Many legends in many cultures tell stories of the great bird, the phoenix, a mystical bird that lives for 500 years, apparently it builds a nest to die in, some stories describe the nest then bursting into fire, and the ashes producing a new baby phoenix bird, a reincarnation or off-spring that lives for another 500 years and repeats the process and so-on (there’s a variety of tales in more beautiful tellings!).

Really I like the meaning of the story, the rebirth of itself, a second chance, a change, giving a new life etc.

So today I drew my first phoenix (copied from here)….on a giant Japanese origami heart, made from postal wrap. I made the heart at 76cm square  – in celebration of my 76 followers on twitter!

My first Phoenix - still in need of some practice
